PIB SCALES FIRST READING AS SENATORS DEBATE MTEF NEXT WEEK

THE Petroleum Industry Bill 2020 passed first reading on the floor of the Senate during plenary on Wednesday.

The Leader of the Senate, Yahaya Abdullahi, presented the proposed legislation and the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, read the bill for the first time.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, directed the Committee on Rules and Business to make sufficient copies available for all lawmakers

Meanwhile, the Senate on Wednesday received the report of the Joint Committee on Finance and National Planning and Economic Affairs on the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper.

The Senate President, while welcoming lawmakers back from the two-month recess on Tuesday, had hinted that the consideration and passage of the MTEF/FSP document would precede the presentation of the 2021 budget estimates by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), next week.
