Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has hinted at his role in the 2027 general election, stating that he is contesting the election as “number one.”
Obi made the remark while addressing supporters ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election in the Federal Capital Territory.
The former Anambra State governor contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), where he finished third. In December 2025, he defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), amid calls from his supporters, popularly known as “Obidients,” for him to pursue only the party’s presidential ticket.
However, some political analysts have advised Obi to consider a vice-presidential role in the interest of party unity and electoral success.
Speaking at the campaign venue, Obi stressed the importance of supporting the ADC candidate in the AMAC election, noting that grassroots victories would strengthen his broader political ambition.
“You see this coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” he said.
