Tragedy struck in Lagos on Friday night when a three-storey building under construction at No. 333 Borno Way, Alagomeji, Yaba, collapsed, trapping several construction workers beneath the rubble.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a preliminary update signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stating that a coordinated search-and-rescue operation was immediately launched.
Emergency responders at the scene include officials from LASEMA’s Onipanu Rescue Unit, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Nigeria Police Force Area C Command, and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
While the cause of the collapse has not yet been established, authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine whether structural defects, regulatory breaches or other factors were involved.
So far, three adult males have been rescued alive, stabilised on-site by LASAMBUS medics, and subsequently transferred to Harvey Road General Hospital, Yaba, for further treatment.
Rescue efforts continue as officials work to locate and assist any other victims still trapped in the debris.
