Amnesty International Nigeria has urged the Delta State Government to take decisive action by ensuring that individuals allegedly involved in the controversial Ozoro festival incidents are prosecuted through a fair and transparent legal process.
In a statement released on Saturday via Facebook, the human rights organisation denounced the disturbing scenes shown in viral videos circulating online.
Amnesty stressed that no tradition or community celebration can excuse violence against women or restrict their freedom to move safely in public spaces.
According to the statement, the organisation strongly criticised the harassment, assault, and humiliating treatment of women during the Ozoro Festival held on March 19, 2026, in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It called on the state government to move beyond verbal condemnation and ensure that all suspects identified in the videos are held accountable under the law.
Amnesty described the footage of the alleged sexual assaults as deeply troubling and unacceptable, emphasising that targeting women for simply being in public spaces is a serious violation of their rights.
The group also urged authorities to provide victims with proper medical attention, psychological support, and access to justice.
