At least 28 killed as bus plunges into ravine in Ethiopia

At least 28 people have died after a bus plunged into a deep ravine in northern Ethiopia on Monday.

According to local authorities, the bus was travelling from Dessie in the Amhara region to the capital, Addis Ababa, when it veered off the road and fell about 100 metres into a ravine.

Several other passengers were injured, with survivors taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Authorities say an investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash.

Road accidents are relatively common in Ethiopia, where poor road conditions continue to pose safety challenges.
