The people of Obeagu, in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, are set to witness an unforgettable celebration as the Obeagu Town Union announces the 2025 Obeagu New Yam Festival, holding on Sunday, 31st August 2025, at the Igwebuike Primary School Field, Obeagu, starting by 12:00 noon.
The New Yam Festival, popularly known as “Iri Ji”, is a revered cultural tradition that symbolizes thanksgiving, unity, and prosperity. It marks the beginning of a new harvest season and brings together indigenes, guests, and well-wishers to celebrate the blessings of the land.
The President General of Obeagu Town Union, DCP (Rtd.) Orji Anthony, together with the Planning Committee Chairman, Ogbuefi Engr. Ani Chinedu Titus, and the Secretary, Mr. Ogwume Edwin Tochukwu, assured the public that this year’s edition will be grand, colorful, and entertaining.
Guests will be treated to a rich cultural experience featuring traditional music, masquerade displays, dance performances, cultural exhibitions, and the symbolic breaking of the yam, which represents peace, unity, and progress.
