The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strongly condemned the assault on one of its members in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to the scheme, preliminary findings revealed that operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcefully entered a Corps Lodge in Oba, alleging that it was being used for illegal activities, an accusation that has yet to be substantiated.
The operatives reportedly demanded that all occupants of the lodge submit themselves for a search. During the incident, Corps Member Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), who was said to be visiting the lodge at the time, was allegedly assaulted.
The NYSC disclosed that the matter has already been reported to the police and that investigations, alongside other necessary actions, are ongoing.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the management reassured its commitment to the welfare and security of corps members nationwide.
“Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members across the country. It will not condone any individual or group undermining their safety for any reason,” the statement read.
The scheme further appealed to members of the public to support the safety of corps members in their respective places of primary assignment and host communities.
