The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned an Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and Comfort Emmanson, the passenger at the center of a recent in-flight controversy, for further investigations.
The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this during a Q&A session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” Achimugu said.
He clarified that contrary to reports, the pilot did not call in security personnel upon landing in Lagos since the matter appeared resolved mid-flight. However, Emmanson, who went to the restroom after landing, was the last passenger to disembark.
Achimugu assured that the NCAA remains committed to establishing all the facts surrounding the case.
In his reaction, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, attributed the rising cases of misconduct in the aviation sector to a decline in discipline among passengers, airport staff, and crew.
Meanwhile, the NCAA has issued a fresh directive mandating that all mobile phones be completely switched off during aircraft take-off and landing, in line with harmonized safety regulations.
