NUJ Hails Global Honour as Dr. Anioke Secures Re-Election to IPA Executive Committee

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, has applauded the re-election of Dr. Uchenna Cyril Anioke as a Director and member of the International Publishers Association (IPA) Executive Committee, describing the honour as a well-deserved global recognition of excellence.

In a congratulatory message issued by the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, the union celebrated Dr. Anioke as a distinguished journalist, accomplished publisher, and prolific writer whose dedication to the growth of the media and publishing industry has earned him international respect.

Ogbuka commended Dr. Anioke for his enduring contributions and urged him to continue deploying his wealth of experience to strengthen and elevate the global publishing ecosystem.

“We are happy that the world is recognising excellence. Dr. Anioke is a seasoned journalist and renowned publisher who truly deserves this re-election. We are not surprised he is soaring across the globe, representing NUJ Enugu State and Nigeria at large,” Ogbuka said. “We wish him well and urge him to use his experience to uplift the publishing industry and literary world—not only in Enugu, but in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.”

Dr. Anioke’s re-election was formally announced on November 25 by IPA Secretary-General José Borghino during the association’s 2025 General Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland. His new three-year term will commence in January 2026.

A native of Enugu State and former President of the Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA), Dr. Anioke has remained a prominent figure in the advancement of publishing standards both locally and internationally.

The International Publishers Association, founded in 1896, is a leading global body with 105 member organizations across 84 countries. The association is committed to promoting publishing excellence, defending human rights within the industry, and partnering with institutions such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The IPA continues to champion the fight against censorship, the protection of copyright, and the promotion of literacy worldwide.

Dr. Anioke’s continued presence on the IPA Executive Committee, the NUJ noted, reinforces Nigeria’s voice in global publishing discourse and underscores Enugu State’s growing influence on the international media landscape.
