Nollywood Mourns as Filmmaker Kayode Peters Dies at 49 in Canada

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker and producer, Kayode Peters, has passed away at the age of 49.

 

The sad news was confirmed on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with reports indicating that the filmmaker died in Canada. However, details surrounding the cause of his death remain unclear as of the time of this report.

 

Seun Oloketuyi, founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards and a fellow filmmaker, announced the tragic development via his Facebook page.

 

“Bad news emerging from Canada indicates filmmaker Kayode Peters is dead,” Oloketuyi wrote in a brief post that has since sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.

 

Kayode Peters was widely respected in the Nigerian film industry for his work as a director and producer, with a career that spanned decades and influenced a generation of performers and creatives.

 

Tributes have begun pouring in across social media as Nollywood mourns the loss of one of its own.
