The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided more than 20 shops and storage facilities in the Mushin area of Lagos, seizing a large cache of banned codeine-based syrups and other controlled substances.
The operation, carried out earlier this week along Agege Motor Road, was led by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
During the exercise, 13 shops were sealed for dealing in unregistered, expired, banned, and controlled medicinal products in violation of public health regulations.
Among the confiscated items were Dynamogen Oral Solution, Diazepam, Molly, Co-codamol, and Bromazepam—substances NAFDAC warns pose serious health risks, including damage to the brain, liver, and kidneys.
“These drugs, particularly when unregulated, are hazardous to health due to their unverified safety and efficacy,” the agency stated.
NAFDAC has urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious drug sales or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office, as part of its ongoing fight against drug abuse and counterfeit medications.
