- A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State, Ocho Obodoeze, has formally submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja, declaring his readiness to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Obodoeze, who arrived at the ADC headquarters alongside party faithful and supporters, used the occasion to unveil a bold political stance against second tenure for governors, describing it as “a big scam” that weakens governance and slows development.
Addressing journalists shortly after the submission of his forms, the governorship hopeful argued that a single tenure system would improve governance delivery, reduce waste of public resources and compel elected leaders to focus fully on service to the people instead of future political ambitions.
According to him, the experience of past administrations in Enugu State since 1999 shows that many governors recorded stronger performances during their first tenure than in their second term.
Obodoeze cited former governors including Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, stating that while they made notable impacts during their first tenure, their focus shifted in their second term toward pursuing higher political ambitions.
He maintained that such distractions often result in reduced developmental projects and ineffective governance.
“You can now see why I called second tenure a scam. It is under-developing Enugu State and other states,” Obodoeze stated, while advocating that the proposed single-term arrangement should begin with Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
Unveiling his “Ochoudo 2027” agenda, the ADC aspirant said security would remain the top priority of his administration if elected governor in 2027.
He stressed that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere plagued by insecurity, kidnapping and violent crimes.
Obodoeze disclosed that his security blueprint would include community-based policing driven by collaboration between traditional rulers, youth groups and security agencies, alongside technology-driven crime monitoring systems.
He also promised the installation of CCTV cameras in markets, junctions and strategic public locations across the state, as well as solar-powered street lighting in communities to improve safety.
The governorship hopeful further pledged to create employment opportunities through agro-industrial hubs, technology centres and sports academies aimed at engaging youths productively and reducing crime.
In addition, he promised to establish special government desks dedicated to supporting victims of crime and ensuring speedy justice delivery.
Meanwhile, the ADC Like-Minds, a frontline support group within the party, officially endorsed Obodoeze’s governorship ambition.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of ADC Like-Minds, Adolphus Ude, described Obodoeze as a capable and visionary leader with the competence to drive massive development across Enugu State.
Ude also urged the Enugu State House of Assembly to enact legislation making a single tenure mandatory for governors in the state, insisting that such a policy would enhance accountability, improve productivity and curb wasteful spending associated with second-term politics.
