WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Nigerian national and an American woman have been arrested in the United States in connection with the alleged abduction of a federal law enforcement agent, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
According to federal investigators, the suspects are accused of forcibly detaining the agent during an incident that occurred while the officer was carrying out official duties. Law enforcement officials said the agent was later located and rescued without life-threatening injuries.
The identities of the suspects have not been fully disclosed pending formal charges, but officials confirmed that both individuals are currently in federal custody. Prosecutors allege that the suspects acted in coordination and may face multiple charges, including kidnapping of a federal officer, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the investigation, with assistance from other federal and local agencies. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the motive for the alleged abduction or whether additional suspects may be involved.
A spokesperson for federal law enforcement described the incident as “a serious attack on a federal officer” and emphasized that crimes targeting law enforcement personnel are prosecuted with the utmost severity under U.S. law.
The suspects are expected to appear in federal court in the coming days, where formal charges will be read. If convicted, they could face lengthy prison sentences.
The investigation remains ongoing.
