NDC Warns Public to Disregard Social Media Primary Results

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged members of the public to disregard results circulating on social media regarding its nationwide primary elections held on May 28 and 29, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the NDC said the official results of the primaries remain under the custody of the National Executive Council (NEC), which is solely responsible for announcing the outcomes.

“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” the statement said.

According to the party, the NEC will meet in Abuja this week following a directive from the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson.

The statement disclosed that NEC members have been directed to arrive in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, June 2, for a pre-NEC meeting, while the substantive NEC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3.

“On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called,” the statement added.

The party assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates who will contest elections under the NDC platform would be made public after the completion of internal processes and submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The general public and stakeholders will be informed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to the INEC,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail the delayed announcement of the primary results.

One social media user, Dylan (@grace_speak05), claimed that Hon. Utomi Nwanne remained the leading candidate in the Delta North Senatorial primary and called for respect for what he described as the electorate’s mandate.

The NDC, however, has maintained that only results officially released by the party’s NEC should be regarded as authentic.
