Nigerian Fraudster Gets 1-Year Sentence for $71K U.S. NGO Cyber Scam in Landmark Abuja Court Ruling

The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted and sentenced one Dennis Tamarakuro, also known as Keisha Reynolds, to one year imprisonment with an option of N1 million fine for defrauding a U.S.-based NGO of $71,795.41 through a cyber fraud scheme.

Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the judgment on Thursday, September 4, 2025, after Tamarakuro pleaded guilty to impersonating a U.S. investor and diverting the funds through cryptocurrency exchanges.

The EFCC recovered over $42,000 linked to the fraud, while the remaining funds were blocked by a U.S. bank. The court ordered that the recovered money be forfeited to the victim and directed Tamarakuro to swear to an affidavit of good conduct.
