A former Deputy president of the Senate, Sen. Prof. Ike Ekweremadu has stated that Nigeria’s problems are not insurmountable, it only needs to be tackled with practicable and adequate approaches.
The Senator who was speaking at a surprise birthday celebration hosted by a coalition of Enugu youths.
Recall, that Ekweremadu had marked his 59th birth anniversary on the 12th of May, 2021.
Speaking at the surprise party was the president, Agbaja youth council, Ebube Nebo.
He had enumerated the impeccable leadership and personal qualities of the Senator, reiterating that several younger politicians are gaining in the vast pool of his political and social intellect, as well as experience.
He however, prayed that God honours the yearnings of the senator’s heart, praying for long life and immeasurable blessings.
Dr. Mrs. Nwanneka Ekweremadu, Wife of the birthday celebrant, who was spotted in a euphoric mood, told UGAMATV that she is eternally grateful to God for the life of her husband.
She appreciated God for his immense favours, protection ND blessing in their lives, after which she prayed for his continuous excellence, wishing him a fruitful and blessed birthday.
An Awed Ekweremadu was sighted exchanging warm pleasantries with friends, acquaintances and associates.
In gratitude he said, “About four years ago, I attended a birthday party of my good friend. The thanksgiving section was conducted by the prelate of the Methodist church in Lagos state. In the course of the prayer section he said something fundamental, “ Every human being’s birthday has three stages.”
“First, when you are young your parents celebrate this birthday, inviting friends, classmates for you. Secondly, when you grow older and start working then you can invite your friends to join you as thank God for a new year. Lastly and most importantly, few persons are privileged to experience this particular one. That is when you get older with your friends and your family. They now do the birthday celebration for you.
I think I am one of the few lucky persons that are enjoining that phase now. So, to have the young people of Enugu state , wiling to celebrate me. Also, to have a lovely wife who taught is necessary to gather her friends for this party. “
“In my modesty, I just want to say that I am grateful to God. There are no better ways to put it thant to say, “May His name be praised.”
I also recall that two days ago we were in Abuja, few of my friends came . Even though I said that I don’t need to have any party, I realized that they have defiled my order. I know that my people from Aninri, Awgu, Udi and Oji River and Ezeagu have worked tirelessly to make up this.
The grace of God upon me has given me almost everything that I have expected, especially the good friends and associates who have added colour to my life. I thank you all.”
“I use this opportunity to thank my community Mpu for giving me the first platform to build my political career as the president of the town union. I am also greatfullto the Aninri people, who despite my humble beginning elected me as the pioneer chairman of the Local Government Council. I extend my gratitude to them through the current chairman of the council.
Then, to the people of Enugu who created the position of the Chief of staff in the whole Nigeria and deemed me fit to hold that position, sometime in1999. “
” I am also greatful to my boss senator Chimaroke Nnamani, who gave me the job as the pioneer Chief of Staff in the state and the whole Nigeria. He also extended his birthday wishes this morning to me. “
“Then to the people of Nigeria who gave me the opportunity to serve first as the Committee Chairman and then as the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, for twelve consecutive years.
Again to the West Africa sub-region, which honored me with the position of the Deputy Speaker and later as the speaker of the same parliament.’
“I can’t thank the international community enough for the opportunity to serve in different platforms. I believe that Nigeria can be better than what we see today. There is no problem that cannot be fixed. What is important is to identfy the right man to fix it; that is the problem we have in Nigeria today.”
“Nigeria is embattled in different directions, but the issue is that what we are experiencing in Nigeria is not insurmountable. All we need to do is to employ the proper approach to deal with this issue. We have witnessed this type of scenario in terms of security in several other countries and at the appropriate time they were able to overcome it.
We have seen this type of economic situaation in several other countries but after a period of time good men assembled and were able to resolve their problem and became prosperous.
So I hope that in 2023 we will have good men and women that will resolve our problems at the same level.”
“I want to charge all of you here to be in the vanguard for those changes, to be the apostles of a new Nigeria that is coming and to make yourselves available to serve at various levels from Local government to State and to Federal, possibly, at the International level because I can see a new Nigeria coming.
Thank you for this thoughtful gesture. May God bless you in Jesus name.”
