Woman Critically Injured in Brutal Phone Snatching Attack Near Bauchi University

A middle-aged woman has been left critically injured after suspected phone snatchers attacked her in Gadau, host community of Sa’adu Zungur University, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday near the institution’s main campus, has raised concern among residents of the student community.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants, believed to be four in number, confronted the woman and demanded her mobile phone.

The situation reportedly escalated when she resisted them.

In the ensuing struggle, one of the suspects allegedly used a sharp object to inflict severe injuries on the victim before forcefully taking her phone. The attackers were also said to have inflicted multiple cuts on her face and other parts of her body before fleeing the scene.

The victim was later rushed to a medical facility in the town, where she is currently receiving treatment, with plans for possible referral depending on her condition.

Residents expressed anger over the incident, saying cases of phone snatching and related attacks have become frequent in the area. They called on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure those responsible are arrested.

They also noted that Gadau, being a university town, requires a stronger security presence to protect students and other residents.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get a response from the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, did not respond to messages sent to his WhatsApp number.
