Nigeria Police Repatriate High-Profile Chinese Fugitive to Beijing

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has successfully repatriated a high-profile fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, said the operation reflects the NPF’s unwavering commitment to combating transnational organised crime.

Qisheng, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, had fled his country in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest over violent organised crimes. He later sought refuge in Nigeria in an attempt to evade justice.

According to Adejobi, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked, placed Qisheng under surveillance, and eventually apprehended him in Abuja on August 8, 2025. He was repatriated to Beijing on August 15 under the framework of police-to-police cooperation, in coordination with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

The Force PRO stressed that the operation not only demonstrates Nigeria’s determination to ensure fugitives find no safe haven within its borders but also underscores the importance of international collaboration in tackling global crime syndicates.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reassured the global community of the NPF’s readiness to deepen international cooperation through intelligence sharing and operational partnerships.

He noted that the successful repatriation of Qisheng sends a strong warning to criminals worldwide that Nigeria will not be a sanctuary for fugitives.
