Niger Assembly speaker, clerk test positive for COVID-19

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bawa, and the clerk of the House, Abdullahi Kagara, have contracted coronavirus.

The Commissioner of Information in the State, Muhammed Idris, made this known on Sunday, adding that the speaker and clerk had gone into self-isolation.

UGAMATV gathered that the lawmakers were asked to undergo a COVID-19 test after a member representing Gurara Local Government and Chairperson of the House Committee on Gender Affairs, Binta Mamman had earlier tested positive for the virus two weeks ago.

The results of the test were released on Sunday, according to Idris.

He said the results of some of the lawmakers are being awaited.

“We are yet to receive other results. But for now, many of us are in self-isolation,” Baba said.
