The Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC), the official bottling partner of the Coca-Cola Company in Nigeria, has been awarded the Best Sustainability Project of the Year at the 2024 edition of The Industry Awards. The recognition celebrates NBC’s recently launched Packaging Collection Hub in Apapa, Lagos—an initiative that reflects the company’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible business practices.
The prestigious awards ceremony, organized by Industry Newspaper, took place over the weekend at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. The annual event honors excellence in branding and marketing, spotlighting individuals and organizations driving innovation within West Africa’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and marketing sectors.
This year’s theme, “Understanding Changing Consumer Preferences in a Troubled FMCG Space,” emphasized the need for agility and innovation amid shifting economic realities and evolving consumer behaviors.
Accepting the award on behalf of NBC, Oluwasoromidayo George, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Director, expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling it “a powerful motivation to do even more in promoting environmental responsibility.”
She highlighted that the Apapa Packaging Collection Hub was created to enhance recycling rates, encourage sustainable packaging practices, and reduce environmental impact.
“We see every bottle and aluminum can as more than just waste—it’s a resource with the potential for new life,” George said. “Through collaboration with partners and suppliers, we’re making recycling easier, reducing packaging waste, and building a cleaner environment. This initiative also contributes to job creation, community empowerment, and inclusive growth across Nigeria.”
George reaffirmed NBC’s commitment to achieving its ambitious target of collecting and recycling the equivalent of 100% of its packaging by 2030, positioning the hub as a symbol of environmental stewardship and social impact.
