Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Petitions IGP, AGF Over Alleged Defamation, Conspiracy by Akpabio, Sandra Duru

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has filed fresh petitions against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Dr. Sandra Duru, alleging criminal conspiracy, defamation, cyberstalking, and an attempt on her life.

The petitions were submitted to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, on May 15, 2025. Filed through her legal counsel, Senator Ehiogie West-Idahosa, the petitions are backed by what she described as “incontrovertible evidence” from media reports, public broadcasts, expert analysis, and witness testimonies.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Dr. Duru, who allegedly posed online as “Prof. Mgbeke,” initially presented herself as a supporter, offering to help frame public narratives and mobilize digital backing. However, after Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to pay for these services, Duru allegedly launched a coordinated character assassination campaign against her.

“The allegations against me are baseless and part of a calculated effort to destroy my reputation and silence my voice,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said. “I now live in fear for my safety and that of my family due to persistent harassment and intimidation.”

The petition further alleged that Senate President Akpabio has a retaliatory motive, following public accusations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan in February 2025, where she accused him of sexual harassment. According to her legal team, the ongoing smear campaign is part of a broader attempt by Akpabio to discredit and endanger her, allegedly using proxies and institutional resources.

“We believe the evidence will establish a deliberate and malicious effort to damage our client’s reputation and personal safety,” her legal counsel stated. “The actions of the accused constitute a criminal enterprise that violates multiple provisions of Nigerian law.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged the IGP and AGF to thoroughly investigate all individuals and entities involved in the campaign, including third parties who publicly supported defamatory broadcasts against her, to determine the extent of their involvement.

“We respectfully request a comprehensive investigation into the contents of this petition and call for justice to be served, irrespective of the social or political standing of those involved,” her legal team concluded.
