Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has called on the Federal Government to dissolve the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if the national team fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria’s qualification hopes hang in the balance after the Eagles drew with South Africa in their Group C clash, leaving them third on the log, six points behind Bafana Bafana with only two matches left to play.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, the former Chelsea midfielder blamed the team’s struggles on poor leadership within the NFF.
“If Nigeria doesn’t qualify for the World Cup, the entire NFF board has to go… it’s unacceptable,” Mikel said.
He reminded fans that Nigeria already missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, stressing that another failure would be disastrous.
“We didn’t qualify for Qatar, the last World Cup, and now it looks like again we are not going to make it. Honestly, I have nothing to say about it,” he added.
The Super Eagles face a must-win scenario in their remaining fixtures if they are to keep their World Cup dream alive.
