Deyemi Okanlawon has argued that mediocrity is often rewarded over professionalism in Nigeria.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Dear Ife podcast, the Nollywood actor and filmmaker described Nigeria as a society where excellence is frequently overlooked while mediocrity flourishes.
According to Okanlawon, being overly professional can sometimes hinder career growth and success in the country.
“In a country where mediocrity reigns, you can’t be too serious. I once joked that you can’t be too professional and succeed in Nigeria. Those who appear the most unserious often succeed the most.
“I have realised that you sometimes have to tone your intellect down to succeed here,” he said.
