Man arrested for defiling neighbour’s 13-year-old in Lagos

A man, Sunday Ukeme, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter in the Akodo area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said in a statement on Sunday that Ukeme took advantage of the victim when her mother kept her in the custody of his wife and travelled for three weeks.

He said when the victim’s mother returned from the journey, the victim reported to her that Ukeme allegedly defiled her.

Ukeme was arrested after the victim’s mother reported the case at the Akodo Police Station.

Ajisebutu said, “A 32-year-old married man, Sunday Ukeme, has been arrested by detectives attached to the Akodo Police Division, Lagos State, for defiling a neighbour’s daughter. The incident happened in Idaso town, Ibeju Lekki at about 10.30 pm on September 20, 2021, after the suspect’s wife left for a vigil in one of the churches in the neighbourhood.

“The victim’s mother had kept her in the custody of the suspect’s wife, Mary Sunday when she (victim’s mother) travelled out of the town for three weeks. According to the victim’s mother who reported the case at the police station, when she returned from the journey the victim reported to her that she was defiled by the suspect.

Ajisebutu added that the victim has been taken to the hospital for a medical check-up as the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for further investigation.

He said, “Consequent upon the report lodged at the police station on October 4, 2021, detectives immediately arrested the suspect. The victim has since been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“The case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for diligent investigation and prosecution on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

“The CP while promising to protect every girl child and other vulnerable persons in the state, vows to prosecute such paedophiles with an unbridled sexual urge for minors.”
