Love on the Rails: How Shawn Faqua and Sharon Maduekwe Made History With a Train Wedding

Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua weds Sharon Maduekwe in Nigeria’s first-ever moving train wedding, blending love and innovation.

Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua and his bride, Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, have successfully made history by tying the knot aboard a decorated, moving train, marking Nigeria’s inaugural “train wedding.”

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Sunday aboard a train on the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, turning a coach at the Mobolaji Johnson train station into an elegantly decorated venue on wheels.

Departing from the Alagomeji-Yaba station in Lagos, the train carried the couple, their guests, and their love story across tracks literally and symbolically.

Following their traditional wedding, the couple’s white ceremony was anything but conventional. As the train glided along its route, the transformed carriage adorned with flowers and filled with music hosted the emotional exchange of vows, rings, and a kiss that sealed their union. Guests, including notable figures like actor Stan Nze, applauded as history was made.

The vision behind the event came from the bride, Sharon, a professional event planner, whose imaginative touch turned an ordinary train ride into a memorable, moving experience both emotionally and geographically.

Viral videos from the day show the bridal party rushing to board the train, adding a spontaneous, adventurous energy to an already remarkable event.

Beyond the personal celebration, the wedding served as a public showcase of both modern love and modern infrastructure. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) embraced the moment, acknowledging the event’s unique contribution to public engagement with the country’s growing transportation network.

“From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track,” the NRC posted. “History made the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination.”

The wedding has since sparked widespread attention on social media, with Nigerians celebrating not only the romance but also the creative ingenuity and national pride embedded in the event. It marked a rare intersection between entertainment, innovation, and infrastructure development, reflecting a new chapter in how events and stories can be told in Nigeria.

The Faquas’ wedding has set a new precedent for unforgettable nuptials in Nigeria, redefining what it means to think outside the box. It was a celebration of love, creativity, and progress rolling through the heart of Nigeria, one track at a time.
