Lionel Messi became only the second player in history to score 900 official career goals on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old forward opened the scoring in the seventh minute of Inter Miami’s home match against Nashville SC at Chase Stadium in the second leg of the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup round-of-16 tie. Messi controlled a pass from Sergio Reguilón inside the box and slotted a low shot into the net to mark the milestone.
The match ended 1-1, following a 0-0 draw in the first leg, but Nashville SC advanced on the away-goals rule after equalising through Cristian Espinoza in the second half.
Messi began 2026 with 896 career goals and had added three more before Wednesday’s fixture. His career tally now stands at 672 goals for Barcelona, 32 for Paris Saint-Germain, 81 for Inter Miami, and 115 for Argentina.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner now joins Cristiano Ronaldo, who reached 900 goals in September 2024 and currently has 959, as the only men’s players to achieve this remarkable milestone.
