The Lagos State Government has pulled down a cluster of illegal shanties and an unapproved car wash in the Lekki area in a fresh push to enforce environmental laws.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the move in a statement on his official X handle on Tuesday.
He explained that the enforcement team dismantled the structures at Lafiaji Beach and along Platinum Way in the Igbokusu axis of Lekki, describing them as breeding grounds for environmental abuse and poor sanitation.
“These shanties not only degrade the environment but also promote indiscriminate waste disposal and other unhygienic practices along our coastal corridors,” Wahab said.
He stressed that the state would not tolerate any activity that threatens environmental sustainability and public health.
“As a government, we cannot allow these practices to persist unchecked. We remain committed to restoring order, safeguarding our waterfronts, and ensuring that public spaces are managed responsibly in line with environmental regulations,” the commissioner added.
