Lagos state govt seals supermarket for selling items with single-use plastics

The Lagos state government today October 29, sealed off three different supermarkets in the Kosofe Local government area of the state for selling items with single-use plastics.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this online, said

‘’Our enforcement teams continued operations today across multiple locations in Kosofe LGA to ensure full compliance with the Lagos State ban on Single-Use Plastics (SUPs).

Winny Supermarket has been sealed, with all SUP materials confiscated for non-compliance. Similarly, Afia Supermarket at Tipper Garage, Ketu, and Beyond Tastee2Go Restaurant on Ogudu Road, Ojota were sealed on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, after repeated warnings were ignored.

This ongoing exercise is part of our broader effort to curb plastic pollution, protect the environment, and promote a sustainable waste management culture in Lagos. Businesses are urged to transition to eco-friendly alternatives as the state intensifies enforcement.

Our goal remains clear; to safeguard public health and protect our environment for a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos.”

The Lagos state government has since banned the use of Single-Use-Plastics in the state as part of measures to maintain a healthy environment and keep the state clean. Residents have over the years illegally dumped the Single-use-plastics which in turn clog the water channels in the state thereby contributing to the many causes of flooding in the state.
