Kano State to Sponsor Weddings of Repentant Thugs

The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced plans to sponsor the weddings of repentant thugs.

The Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, made this known after more than 1,000 youths surrendered their weapons and renounced violence.

“This programme is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s initiative to support youths who have turned away from crime and want to live a decent life,” Sheikh Daurawa explained.

Daurawa, however, cautioned the youths to ensure their repentance was genuine.

He also urged other thugs who had not yet surrendered to take advantage of the programme.

Speaking at the event held at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya said the screening exercise by the police was the first step in the rehabilitation process.

“After this, the NDLEA will also screen the youths to confirm the sincerity of their repentance,” the governor stated.

He added that the government will provide the repentant youths with start-up funds, vocational training, and even educational opportunities for those who wish to continue school.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the exercise showed the government’s commitment to fighting crime and giving young people a second chance.

Some of the youth leaders, including Kamilu and Buzu Mai Kidan Gangi, expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for supporting their decision to change.
