The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 183 suspects in a series of coordinated raids within the Kaduna metropolis, recovering an AK-47 rifle, 31 rounds of live ammunition, a stolen vehicle, and 30 bags of Indian hemp, among other items.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan.
“In its continuous efforts to rid Kaduna State of criminal elements and safeguard lives and properties, the command has launched an aggressive manhunt and clampdown on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state,” Hassan said.
Key Areas Targeted
The operations, which were supervised by Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), focused on Rigasa, Kawo, Tudun Wada, Sabon Tasha, and other high-risk communities, in line with directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad.
According to the statement, Friday’s raid in Rigasa led to the seizure of over 1,600 wraps and 30 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with other dangerous weapons.
“The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to restore public confidence and enhance internal security,” Hassan stated.
Discovery of Ammunition, Arrest of Suspected Car Thieves
Later that same day at 11:45 p.m., residents of Rafin Guza reported an abandoned bag left behind during a police hot pursuit. The bag was found to contain an AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with 31 live rounds.
On Sunday at 11:00 a.m., operatives from the Kakuri Division, acting on a tip-off, posed as buyers to arrest a suspect, Ziya Abdullahi, attempting to sell a suspected stolen vehicle. His confession led to the arrest of his accomplice, Bashir Usman, alias Yellow.
“The duo admitted to robbing a resident at knifepoint and making away with a Honda Accord, which has since been recovered in Zaria,” Hassan confirmed.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The police noted that several suspects have already been charged to court, while others remain under investigation. All individuals found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Police Commissioner’s Assurance
Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad reaffirmed the command’s dedication to fighting crime and urged citizens to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible information.
“The Kaduna State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to ensure peace and security across all communities,” CP Muhammad stated.
