Governor Aiyedatiwa Pledges Support, Welfare for NYSC Members in Ondo State

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), promising improved welfare, safety, and infrastructural development for corps members deployed to the state.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi, during the official opening of the NYSC orientation course, the governor assured corps members of adequate protection and support throughout their service year in Ondo State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa applauded the NYSC scheme for its significant contributions to national unity, citing its role in promoting cultural integration and inter-ethnic understanding. He encouraged corps members to embrace the core values of the scheme and actively engage in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

“We are poised to provide a safe, conducive, and enabling environment for all corps members. Plans are already underway for infrastructural upgrades at the orientation camp,” the governor stated.

Also speaking at the event, the Acting Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, represented by the Director of Youth Development, Mrs. Catherine Okukpe, described the new corps members as torchbearers of hope, urging them to serve with courage, humility, and honour.

“You have joined a prestigious lineage of nation-builders. Let your service year be marked by selflessness and dedication,” Okukpe advised.

On her part, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, appreciated the state government’s ongoing support but appealed for additional infrastructural upgrades at the orientation camp in Ikare Akoko, especially the need for more hostel facilities to accommodate the growing number of corps members.

“While the camp has seen improvements, there is a pressing need for expansion, particularly in accommodation,” Bakare noted.

The orientation programme marks the beginning of the corps members’ national service and includes intensive training, cultural integration activities, and entrepreneurship development sessions.
