Popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate or KWAM 1, has tendered an apology over the incident involving him and ValueJet airline on Tuesday, which resulted in a six-month flight ban imposed by the federal government.
The drama began when the Fuji maestro was reportedly prevented from boarding a ValueJet aircraft after security officials claimed he was carrying a substance suspected to be alcohol. Angered by the action, K1 allegedly attempted to stop the aircraft from taking off, a move that prompted the pilot to forcefully taxi the plane.
Following public backlash and the flight restriction, K1 released a signed statement apologizing for what he described as “unruly behaviour,” but firmly denying the claim that he had alcohol in his possession.
“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me,” the statement read.
He explained that the flask in question contained only water, not alcohol as widely reported on social media. According to him, he had passed through two security checks with the flask empty, before filling it with water at the airport lounge, moments before heading to the tarmac.
“This fact can be verified by CCTV footage at the airport lounge. More so, I hadn’t even boarded the plane, let alone being deboarded,” he added.
K1 urged the public to disregard false narratives and reiterated his respect for aviation rules. His apology has since generated mixed reactions among fans and Nigerians on social media, with some calling for a review of the flight ban while others insist that the punishment should stand.
