The Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED Plc) has strongly condemned the violent assault on one of its staff members by personnel of the Nigerian Mobile Police Force in Makurdi, Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday after JED Plc disconnected electricity supply to the Mobile Barracks over unpaid bills amounting to ₦112,420,658.65. In retaliation, police officers allegedly stormed the company’s premises and attacked a security guard, Mr. Hassan Ademu.
According to Dr. Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Services at JED Plc, the officers arrived “in a commando-style manner” and severely beat the security guard, leaving him unconscious with head injuries.
Dr. Elijah expressed deep concern over the incident, announcing that the company would petition both the Inspector-General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police.
“The management has also warned that the mobile barracks will remain disconnected until the outstanding debt is settled,” the company stated.
He also emphasized JED Plc’s commitment to taking additional steps to ensure the safety and protection of its employees.
Meanwhile, when contacted for comments, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received any report on the incident.
