A hacker group with suspected ties to Israel, known as “Gonjeshke Darande” or “Predatory Sparrow,” has claimed responsibility for a major cyberattack on Bank Sepah, one of Iran’s largest financial institutions currently under U.S. sanctions.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the group announced it had destroyed the bank’s data in a deliberate and coordinated operation. “Bank Sepah was used to bypass international sanctions and fund the Iranian regime’s terror affiliates, ballistic missile projects, and military nuclear ambitions,” the hackers stated.
Labeling the attack as a direct assault on regime-linked institutions, the group added, “This is the fate of those who support the dictator’s terrorist agenda,” while also expressing gratitude to Iranians who allegedly assisted in the operation.
As of this morning, reports from within Iran suggest a total shutdown of Bank Sepah’s services, with customers unable to access any banking platforms.
Predatory Sparrow is known for its previous cyber offensives against Iranian infrastructure, including strikes on petrol stations, railway systems, and a steel plant.
The Israeli government has not issued any comment, consistent with its longstanding policy of strategic silence regarding covert cyber activities involving Iran.
