The Benue State House of Assembly has reinstated six out of thirteen lawmakers previously suspended over their opposition to the removal of the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese.
The reinstatement followed the submission of appeal letters and formal apologies by the six legislators, signaling a move toward reconciliation within the Assembly.
The lawmakers returning to active legislative duties are Hon. Simon Gabo, Hon. Elias Audu, Hon. Solomon Gyila, Hon. William Ortyom, Hon. Blessed Onah, and Hon. Anyor Mato.
They were initially suspended for criticizing the Chief Judge’s removal, which they described as unconstitutional and a breach of the principles of separation of powers and fair hearing.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, the Assembly resolved via voice vote that the remaining seven suspended lawmakers would remain barred unless they also submit a formal appeal to the House.
