INEC Records 69,376 Registrants Within Seven Hours of Online Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has recorded 69,376 registrants within the first seven hours of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025.

According to a statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, the online registration portal went live at 8:30 am and by 3:30 pm, tens of thousands of Nigerians had already pre-registered.

Of the total figure, 33,803 (48.7%) are male, while 35,573 (51.3%) are female. By age distribution, 48,033 (69.2%) are young people between 18 and 34 years old.

The online registration portal, available 24/7 via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org, is part of efforts to make voter registration more accessible.

INEC also announced that in-person registration will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at its 811 state and local government offices nationwide. The exercise will run weekdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, allowing both fresh applicants and online pre-registrants to complete their registration.

“The two options will proceed simultaneously throughout the CVR,” INEC said, adding that weekly updates with breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability would be provided.

The Commission reminded the public that only Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above, who have not previously registered, are eligible. Double or multiple registrations remain prohibited, but inter- and intra-state transfers as well as replacement of lost or damaged voter cards are permitted.
