Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has debunked rumours suggesting she is battling cancer, following the circulation of a video clip in which she discussed a past health scare.
The widely circulated clip, taken from her cooking show Mercy’s Menu, featured a conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva, during which Mercy recounted undergoing thyroid surgery after a cancer scare. However, the clip was reportedly edited in a way that led many fans to believe she had been diagnosed with cancer.
Addressing the concerns in a video posted on her Instagram page, the actress thanked fans for their love, prayers, and concern, but clarified that she does not have cancer.
“Thank you to all of you who have been calling and sending messages and prayers. I do appreciate it so much, but I do not have cancer,” she said.
She explained that the health scare stemmed from a swelling in her neck that prompted doctors to investigate a possible thyroid tumour. Although initially suspected to be cancerous, the tumour was later confirmed to be non-cancerous.
“I had a cancer scare. It means that I had a swelling on my neck, and my doctors thought it could be serious. I had issues with my thyroid and underwent surgery. I’m perfectly okay now.”
Mercy concluded by assuring her fans that she is healthy and doing well, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support.
