*HON.UCHE OKOLO’S SMART FARM PROJECT, A GAME CHANGER FOR FOOD PRODUCTION AND JOB CREATION IN AWGU*

In a significant bid to replicate Gov. Mbah’s vision of grassroots agricultural revolution in Enugu state, the executive chairman of Awgu LGA, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has currently established an ongoing Awgu Smart Farm project, an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming the council’s agricultural sector by engaging residents in improved farming mechanisms.

Hon.Okolo has demonstrated his commitment to agriculture and agro-industrialization through initiatives like the Smart Farm project. With a focus on empowering farmers and increasing food production, the project is poised to make a lasting impact on the Local council’s agricultural sector.

The Awgu Smart Farm is an integrated agricultural system where crops such as cassava, pumpkin, corn, cucumber, watermelon, and other cash crops are cultivated using modern machinery to ensure efficient and stress-free farming.
UGAMATV observed, In a recent visit to the project site guided by A.C. Okonkwo, the Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture to the Executive Chairman of Awgu, an innovative agricultural project designed to revolutionize farming in the region

During the visit, Mr Okonkwo showcased the various agricultural machineries and improved farm implements used for easier and mass production of agricultural produce

With over five hectares of land currently cultivated with germinating corn and cassava in the preliminary stage, Plans are underway to expand production to cover over 100 hectares.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, A.C. Okonkwo disclosed that “Hon. Okolo is organizing a 2–3 week intensive smart farm training program for the youths of Awgu. Which is aimed at empowering young people,  helping them become self-reliant and gainfully employed.”

According to Mr Okonkwo, the second stage of the project will focus on allocating portions to the trained smart farmers for various farming activities.
Addressing the youths, A.C. Okonkwo described farming as a powerful tool for job creation and poverty alleviation, urging them to ensure full utilization of the opportunity.

The Smart Farm project has recorded significant progress in recent times, signaling a promising expectation to create employment opportunities, increase food production, and improve the livelihoods of residents in Awgu Local Government Area and beyond
