Gunmen raid Nasarawa commission’s office, steal safe, AK-47

NO fewer than 50 gunmen reportedly invaded the Nasarawa State Local Government Service Commission and carted away a safe box containing valuables of the commission.

The hoodlums also took away one AK-47 rifle belonging to an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Rammatu Julde, made the disclosure while speaking on Tuesday in Lafia.

She explained that the gunmen, who stormed the premises in the early hours of Monday at exactly 2 am, gained access through the main gate linking the   Local Government Commission and Civil Service Commission and carried out their plans without any intervention from men of the NSCDC as they were overpowered by the bandits.

“They launched the attack in the early hours of Monday at exactly 2am. During the operation, they tied two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps guarding the premises with a rope and collected one AK-47 rifle in their possession.

“They also attempted to take away our 150 KVA generator, but they could not succeed. However, they took away the safe box where valuable documents of the commission were kept. We are presently doing the stock-taking to know other items that were carted away,” she added

Julde, however, said that no life was lost during the operation, but appealed to the NSCDC to carry out a detailed investigation into the matter in order to be sure that there was no conspiracy between its officers and the gunmen.

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen also invaded the state Civil Service Commission which shares a fence with the LG Service Commission and carted away two LED 32 inches television.

Confirming the incident, Public Relation Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Jerry Victor, said, “Two of our officers who were securing the premises were tied down with ropes and they collected one AK-47 rifle from them. The officers have been detained at our command headquarters here in Lafia and investigation is currently ongoing.”
