The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in Bayelsa State during the 2023 elections, Great Joshua MacIver, has reaffirmed his strong support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, describing the project as non-negotiable.
In a statement issued in Yenagoa on Saturday, MacIver urged party leaders in the state to reflect on internal challenges that could undermine the APC’s chances of victory if not urgently addressed.
He highlighted concerns over the current power structure within the party, especially following the entry of Governor Douye Diri into the APC. According to him, the party previously had two dominant blocs with a 95-to-5 percent strength ratio, but the smaller bloc is now being given significant influence, leaving the majority feeling sidelined.
MacIver warned that this imbalance could trigger resentment among party members and lead to further defections, noting that the party has already experienced a wave of exits in recent times.
He stressed that failure to maintain unity could result in the loss of key stakeholders, particularly after upcoming primaries for state, national assembly, and governorship positions.
While reaffirming loyalty to the APC and commitment to President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, MacIver cautioned against creating divisions that political opponents could exploit. He emphasised the need for inclusiveness, unity, and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 elections.
MacIver also congratulated the newly emerged state party chairman, Warman Ogoriba, expressing confidence in his leadership at a crucial period for the party in Bayelsa State.
