Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has commended operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) for arresting suspected high-profile kidnappers and gunrunners operating in the state.
The governor gave the commendation during a visit to the DSS headquarters in Enugu on Monday, where he acknowledged the agency’s efforts in combating insecurity.
According to the DSS, the suspects—Kelvin Azodo, David Chukwuonso, and Arinze Kalu—are linked to multiple attacks on security personnel as well as kidnapping operations across Enugu and neighbouring areas. Authorities believe their arrest will help reduce the security threats faced by residents.
Governor Mbah expressed concern over the involvement of the suspects in such serious crimes, describing their actions as disturbing. He assured that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
He also praised the DSS for its professionalism and dedication, particularly noting its contribution to maintaining peace during the Easter period. The governor said the relative calm experienced by residents was a result of the coordinated efforts of security agencies.
Mbah further urged the agency to sustain its efforts, emphasizing that security remains a core responsibility of government. He expressed confidence that the suspects would be prosecuted and that their criminal networks would be dismantled.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies to combat crime and make Enugu a safe destination for residents, investors, and visitors.
