United States President Donald Trump once again captured global attention at the G7 Summit in France after jokingly declaring, “I’m the boss,” as he arrived for the final session of the gathering chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The remark came on Wednesday as Trump walked into the meeting hall on the last day of the three-day summit, with other world leaders already seated. The comment drew laughter from attendees, while Macron appeared to take it in stride.
“How are you?” Macron asked as Trump approached his seat.
“Good, thank you,” the US president replied before joining fellow leaders at the table.
Trump’s presence has been one of the defining features of the summit in the French resort town of Evian, located on the shores of Lake Geneva. The American leader arrived fresh from announcing a breakthrough agreement aimed at ending the conflict with Iran and amid celebrations surrounding his 80th birthday.
French officials are understood to be pleased that Trump remained throughout the summit and endorsed the final G7 communiqué, a notable contrast to a previous summit in Canada where he departed before its conclusion.
In a rare diplomatic gesture, President Macron has also invited Trump to a private dinner at the historic Palace of Versailles following the summit’s closing session.
However, mindful of criticism that he may appear overly accommodating toward the US leader, Macron has emphasized that the gathering at Versailles should not be viewed as a lavish state banquet or “gala” event.
The interaction between both leaders underscored the attention Trump continues to command on the international stage, often dominating headlines even at multilateral meetings designed to focus on collective global challenges.
