In strict enforcement of quality assurance protocols across public infrastructure, a defective staircase at the Smart Green School located in Amamkpunato, Achi Uno Ward 2, Oji River Local Government Area, has been demolished following a failed structural integrity test ordered by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.
The demolition, which took place yesterday, was part of Governor Mbah’s directive for comprehensive integrity assessments on all ongoing Smart School projects across the state. The compromised staircase had earlier been flagged by the state’s internal monitoring team, and was slated for urgent remediation at no additional cost to the government.
According to a statement by Mr. Dan Nwomeh, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mainstream Media, the contractor responsible for the substandard construction will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for poor-quality work.
“This proactive step is to preempt any form of misinformation, distortion, or mischief from detractors,” Nwomeh noted. “The Governor’s position remains clear — the safety of pupils, teachers, and communities is non-negotiable. Every Smart School project must meet the highest standards of structural integrity and long-term value.”
Governor Mbah’s administration continues to reinforce its commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure while maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the project implementation process.
