Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has described the passing of Senator Okey Ezea as a profound and painful loss to Enugu State and the nation, noting that his death has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
In a personally signed statement released on Wednesday, Governor Mbah said he received the news of the senator’s demise with deep sadness, describing it as “one death that cuts really deep.”
According to him, Senator Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District, was a man whose convictions, courage, and dedication to service remained unmistakable throughout his political career.
“You didn’t have to share his political ideology to appreciate his resilience and unwavering commitment to his constituents and the nation,” Governor Mbah said. “There was never any doubt where he stood on any issue.”
The governor highlighted Senator Ezea’s steadfast love for Enugu State and his unrelenting advocacy for good governance, noting that his contributions enriched the political space and elevated the fortunes of his constituency.
“In all his political struggles, one fact was evident: he loved Enugu State deeply. His death is indeed a sad depletion in the ranks of Enugu’s political leaders,” he stated.
Dr Mbah further stressed that Senator Ezea’s passing is not only a personal tragedy for his family and community, but a collective loss shared by the entire state and the Nigerian nation.
“In the Senate, his brilliance shone brightly, earning him respect from colleagues across party lines. His progressive interventions positively impacted both the nation and his constituency,” the governor said.
He extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the government and people of Enugu State to the bereaved family, the people of Enugu North Senatorial District, and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“May God grant his soul eternal repose,” Governor Mbah prayed.
