Gov Buni calls for national unity as Eid marks end of Ramadan

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has urged Nigerians to shun religious intolerance and tribalism, calling for unity to build a stronger and more prosperous country.

Buni, represented by his deputy Idi Barde Gubana, made the call shortly after observing a two-unit Eid-el-Fitr congregational prayer marking the end of Ramadan at Yobe Mosque and Islamic Centre, Damaturu.

He lamented that some countries smaller than Nigeria are progressing rapidly, leaving it behind despite having a population of over 200 million and abundant talent.

“We have to exploit our diversity for the benefit of the country,” he urged.

The governor called on Nigerians to shun religious intolerance, tribalism, and political sentiments, urging them to join hands to build a stronger and more prosperous country.

“I call on all Muslim faithful to continue to pray for the nation, Mr President and Commander-in-Chief, as well as the state governor, for them to succeed,” he added.

On the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks across the Northeast sub-region, Buni tasked citizens of the state to be security-conscious, remain vigilant, and report suspicious persons or objects to security operatives for prompt action.
