Ghana Immigration Arrests 50 Nigerians in Cybercrime and Human Trafficking Raid at McCarthy Hills

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested approximately 50 Nigerian nationals, including a landlord, during a coordinated security operation targeting suspected cybercrime and human trafficking activities at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of Accra.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, July 24, 2025, was based on intelligence reports indicating that several foreign nationals were unlawfully residing in the area and may have been trafficked into Ghana and coerced into online fraud schemes.

“This operation follows intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators,”

said Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs at the GIS, in an official statement.

The raid was conducted in collaboration with other national security agencies, leading to the arrest of dozens of individuals and the landlord of the property allegedly used for the criminal activities.

Mr. Amoako-Atta added that further investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are currently undergoing screening. Updates will be provided as the probe progresses.

The McCarthy Hills operation is part of a broader crackdown on cybercrime and trafficking rings in residential neighborhoods across Accra.

In a related development from April 2025, a joint operation involving the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ghana Police Service, and other security agencies led to the arrest of 219 foreign nationals, including minors, during a raid at Oyarifa in the Ga East Municipality. That operation uncovered a large-scale cyber fraud and trafficking syndicate.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to dismantling such criminal networks and enforcing immigration and trafficking laws across the country.
