Fulani Militias’ Rampage in Plateau State: An End Must Be Put to the Carnage

An advocacy group under the aegis of Bokkos Likeminds Association (BLA), has strongly condemned what it terms as the ongoing genocide, incessant killings, destruction of communities and properties in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The BLA, which expressed its concerns over the rampant attacks in the council by suspected Fulani militias, called on the federal and state governments, security agencies, and relevant authorities to step up efforts to put an end to the carnage.

In a statement signed by the President and General Secretary, Dr. ST Nguwap, and Engr. Morgan Mangai respectively, the BLA asserted that the attacks by the armed Fulani militia have resulted in hundreds of deaths, destruction of homes, and displacement of communities from their farmlands.

Describing the attacks as systematic and organized, they said it is currently threatening the survival of the people of the Bokkos council, as many of them have had to flee from their ancestral homes.

In the statement made available to News men the BLA said it demands, among other things, the eviction of Fulani immigrants with no ancestral or legal claim to their lands; a total ban on open grazing and adoption of modern ranching practices.

Other demands include a strict enforcement of immigration laws and stronger border controls, and the constitutional recognition of indigenous rights and the right to self-defence.

The group also called on the Plateau State Government, the Federal Government, and international stakeholders to take immediate action to bring justice, reform, and security to the people of Bokkos.
