From Global Stage to Local Impact: Enugu Positions Itself as Africa’s Next Innovation Powerhouse

From Africa Week 2025 to Enugu’s Innovation Future

The participation of Enugu State stakeholders at Norrsken Africa Week 2025 in November marked a significant strategic step toward strengthening the state’s emerging innovation ecosystem and positioning it for global competitiveness.

The global gathering — which brought together founders, investors, and policymakers focused on shaping Africa’s innovation economy — offered a platform for strategic engagement aimed at attracting capital, fostering scalable startups, and driving high-value employment opportunities for the state.

Under the leadership of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Enugu State is advancing a vision of a globally connected innovation economy designed to catalyse investment, nurture talent, and accelerate digital transformation. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to make Enugu a competitive hub for technology, entrepreneurship, and enterprise development in Africa.

Central to this strategy is the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency, also known as the Enugu SME Center, which will function as the coordinating engine driving policy alignment, infrastructure development, talent cultivation, and investor engagement within a structured, results-focused framework.

Additionally, the forthcoming Enugu Tech & Innovation Hub is expected to play a pivotal role in the state’s innovation push. Projections for the hub include supporting more than 100 scalable startups annually, attracting between $10 million and $15 million in investment within three to five years, and generating an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 high-value jobs.

Plans also include structured accelerator programmes, investor-readiness initiatives, and stronger integration into global venture capital networks — all aimed at ensuring sustainable growth rather than symbolic participation.

Stakeholders describe the initiative as a deliberate structural transformation designed to move Enugu beyond participation in Africa’s innovation dialogue to a leadership position within it.

With the Tech & Innovation Hub expected to come on stream soon, officials say the next phase of Enugu’s innovation journey is set to begin, signalling a bold commitment to building a future driven by technology, entrepreneurship, and global collaboration.
