Former World Cup star, Omar Bravo arrested on suspicion of child sex abuse

Mexican football legend, Omar Bravo has been arrested in his home-country on suspicion of child s£x abuse.

The 45-year-old former striker, who played for Mexico 66 times and appeared at the 2006 World Cup, is alleged to have abused a teenage girl on several occasions in recent months.

It’s also feared that Bravo may have ‘committed similar acts before’, the Jalisco state prosecutors told the Associated Press in a statement.

He was arrested during an operation in the city of Zapopan, near his former club Guadalajara, recently and is expected to appear in court soon. The prosecutor’s investigation is ongoing.

A lawyer for the footballer could be ‘immediately reached’, the publication said.

Bravo is renowned as one of the greatest Mexican strikers of his generation and is Guadalajara’s all-time leading goal-scorer.

After kick-starting his career with the club back in 2001, Bravo went on to score 156 goals in 400 appearances for Chivas over three separate stints.

His club form earned him a call-up to the Mexican national team in 2003, with the striker going on to score 15 goals for his country over a 10-year period.

During that time, he was part of Mexico’s squad for the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the German World Cup two years later.

He enjoyed stints in the MLS with Sporting Kansas City, North Carolina, Phoenix Rising and Arizona Monsoon

in the latter years of his career.
