Former Presidential Aspirant Calls for Transparency as Rivers Sole Administrator Fails to Properly Hand Over Power

Former presidential aspirant and Convener of the YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to steer clear of political detractors and praise-singers, and instead focus on governance in the interest of the people.

In a statement in Akure, Ondo State capital on Friday, Ikubese also appealed to former Rivers governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to avoid unnecessary interference in the affairs of the state and allow peace to reign in the overall interest of the people.

He expressed concern over the failure of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), who administered the state for six months as sole administrator during the emergency rule, to properly hand over to the elected governor.

“I find it curious that the sole administrator left after six months of sitting on the resources of Rivers State without properly handing over to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“It is expedient that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd) publish his activities while in office during the six-month emergency period, in the spirit of transparency and accountability,” he said.

Ikubese noted that while Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) provides for such declarations, it does not expressly empower the president to suspend democratic structures in a state.

He, therefore, called on the judiciary to make urgent pronouncements on the various suits already filed by stakeholders, including the case instituted by seven PDP governors, to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
